You don’t want to screw up this interview. In fact, you really want to get a job offer, the challenge is that it’s tough for you to shake your nerves.
Let’s find out how to be confident in interviews-
Not Believing in Yourself is the Problem
This is one first mistake you want to avoid: you are worried that you aren’t good enough for the job. Chances are when you aren’t confident going into an interview, it’s because you worried that at the end of the day, they’re gonna find out that you aren’t the right fit for the role. As long as you have those thoughts. You’ll actually act like someone who isn’t good enough and doesn’t believe in yourself.
There is no way it’s gonna happen as long as you have that belief. In fact, what you need to do is you need to believe that that thought and that belief about yourself is not real. You want to replace that thought with positive soft thoughts such as I am good enough for this role, I am good enough for this position, and I can do this.
Because once you start thinking that, you’ll actually begin to behave differently in an interview. Let’s follow the below 5 steps to overcome this problem.
Never Think of Impressing Someone
Let’s talk about exactly how you can be more confident about your next interview. The first step is giving up the need to impress someone. When you go into an interview to impress, usually, it’s because you feel you need to impress.
When companies are hiring, they’re not trying to hire people who impress them the most. What they’re trying to do is to hire people who are the right fit for their team.
Hence, it’s actually vital that you show them that your work belongs within the organization. You belong to the organization. If you try and switch from trying to impress into trying to look like the right fit, you’ll actually be much more successful in the interview.
Focus on What They Want
When you go into an interview, you’re thinking about yourself and being self-conscious. For example, think about your friends. In that case, if you have a friend who thinks about themselves and only thinks about themselves and you’re talking to them, it’s challenging for you to connect.
It doesn’t matter what relationship it is. Whether it’s a sexual relationship, whether it’s a platonic relationship, whether it’s a relationship with a friend or those relationships with an employer.
When you have a conversation with an erring manager or with the interviewer, you must show that you are focusing on them. This means trying to understand their goals, trying to understand the objectives trying to understand the results they want you to achieve, and caring about. Because you care about them, and you care about serving them.
When your focus in the interview is about serving them and helping them, and it’s all about them, you tend to find that you don’t worry so much.
Believe in Your Positive Impact
The third step is you want to believe you can make an impact there. In fact, if there was only one way to pass an interview, this would probably be it. The people who can make the most significant impact will always be the most valued staff employees that ever work at any company.
You might notice yourself if you’ve ever worked at a company before. You’ll know when there are people that work there that are just so good at what they do, and they just make such an impact that when they are gone, it makes a difference. It changes the work environment; it changes the white contacts.
Believe that you can impact the organization. Even if you are inexperienced, it doesn’t count. It doesn’t matter if you don’t feel like you have the best grades or went to the best university. None of that matters. You intend to impact the company, and you intend to do your job to the best of your ability is the only thing that matters.
If you have that belief, then I am telling you, you’ll be successful in all of your interviews. You’re someone who is committed to achieving the objectives and the results they want to achieve. Believe that at the core of your heart, you will actually be more confident in the interview.
You want to do is to love yourself as much as the company. What I found has happened to so many people is that when they interviewed a company, they really want to work or they get really really excited. So it might be a company that you’ve been dreaming about working for four years. It might be a role that you really are interested in doing, and it’s the one you want the most.
The point is that when you walk through that door, you get nervous because you are kind of starstruck. The problem is that when you are starstruck, you’re actually treating the company like they are valuable, and you are not. So let’s say, for example, if you are meeting someone in the royal family, you might be thinking this royal family they are royal. They are above me, and obviously, I need to curtsey.
You might be kind of starstruck by the fact that you’re meeting the royal family, or you could be meeting someone that is really really good at what they do. But when you kind of go in without mindset, what you’re also communicating is that you don’t feel that you belong and that you aren’t necessarily good enough to be there. Which really knocks your confidence.
Because you feel like you’re beneath that person. But what you really wanted you to be confident is to actually love yourself. By this, I mean to know that you are valuable, know that you are good at what you do, and see that they are just as lucky to meet you as you are fortunate to meet them.
Because if you are good at what you do, they will be so grateful to have met you the same way you will be so thankful for the paycheck you receive every month.
Create an Interview Routine
And then the last thing you want to do is you also want to have an interview routine. You want to have a pattern that will help you get pumped up and calm for the interview. So you really want to make sure that you want to have a life, you want to be bursting with energy so that you are radiant in your interview.
And you are really on your a-game. We also want to be calm. You don’t want to be overconfident. You don’t want to be nervous, so it’s vital to think about things you can do. Think about one thing you can do that will make you feel calm in an interview. And one thing that you can do that will make you feel pumped. So for me personally what I love to do is I love to meditate and run a bath before an interview. I also love to do before an interview is running because exercising helps give me energy. It helps me focus, and that’s it.
